Released in 1990, this is a horror film directed by William Friedkin who had directed 1973’s The Exorcist.
This is based on the novel The Nanny by Danny Greenburg.
As indicated by the novel title this is about a creepy nanny played here by Jenny Seagrove.
The Guardian does not deliver well on its horror premise with the nanny character not being creepy enough.
Whatever made The Exorcist the classic horror it has become it certainly missing with Friedkin’s direction of The Guardian.
In fact Friedkin disassociate himself with The Guardian when it eventually made its cable television debut with the director being credited under the name Alan Von Smithee, Alan Smithee being the infamous pseudonym requested by directors not wanting to be associated with a project that they have decided to turn their backs on.
