Binge (General Discussion)

Here to discuss Foxtel Play

Topic about Foxtel Play Streaming Service

Just for reference, here’s the original Foxtel Play press release:

Foxtel today invited Presto subscribers to come and see what Foxtel Play has to offer with a two week free trial to Foxtel Play. The free trial is accompanied by three months of special pricing offered exclusively to Presto subscribers*.

Following the free trial, Presto subscribers will be able to subscribe to Foxtel Play’s Pop and Movies tiers for $15 per month for three months, discounted from its normal price of $35 per month, for a $60 saving over three months.

Foxtel’s move offers Presto subscribers a much more comprehensive selection of programming than their existing service. As Foxtel Play subscribers with the pop and movies tiers, they will have access to a vast collection of the most current movies available from all of the major Hollywood studios as well as a host of the most recent TV series, with many broadcast ‘Express from the US’; plus access to a constantly growing on demand library.

The Pop tier includes a raft of Foxtel’s most popular channels, with programs never before seen on Presto, including showcase, offering HBO’s critically acclaimed drama such as Game of Thrones (every episode), Westworld and Insecure, plus the newest series of Foxtel originals as they premiere like A Place to Call Home, Wentworth and more. The Pop tier also includes the Binge. channel featuring complete seasons of popular programs including True Blood, Bitten, and Beauty and the Beast; FX, with the latest seasons of The Walking Dead, The Exorcist and The Last Ship, plus programming from FOX8, SyFy, MTV, and the Comedy Channel.

Subscribers will also have access, on demand, to the upcoming special event, Home and Away: Revenge, with Dan Ewing and Lisa Gormley reprising their roles as Heath and Bianca Braxton.

The movies tier features all of Foxtel’s movie channels airing the best in action, comedy, romance, family, thriller and world movies. Key highlights include Deadpool, Steve Jobs, Jurassic World, Spectre, Zoolander 2 and The Finest Hours; plus, Foxtel’s popular pop-up movies channels including the upcoming ‘12 Days of Christmas’ pop-up showcasing all-time holiday hits; and the ‘Best of 2016’ pop-up, slated for December and January.

The offer follows new pricing and packaging for Foxtel Play that kicked off earlier this month, and features five different entry level tiers to match viewers’ interests including Drama and Pop packs priced at $15 per month each or $25 for both, plus Lifestyle, Documentary and Kids packs for $10 each per month.

In addition, customers can take the Movies tier for an additional $20 per month; and the Sports tier for an extra $29 per month~. The Sports tier features the best in live sport from 12 dedicated sports channels featuring every game from the NRL, AFL, Super Rugby, A-League, NBL as well as every race, practice and qualifying session of Formula 1 and V8s.

Foxtel Play customers can enjoy their programming via eligible Samsung, Sony and LG Smart TVs, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 & 4, selected Samsung Blu-Ray and home theatre systems, PC and Mac computers and Telstra TV.

Foxtel Play customers also have access to all live and on demand content from the channels in their subscription on selected smart phones and tablets by downloading the Foxtel Go^ app at no extra cost.

Current Presto subscribers will receive a promo code from Foxtel that they can redeem for their special Foxtel Play pricing at www.foxtelplay.com.au/presto.

There is a huge lack of apps compared to presto though. No Android TV offering, etc. It’s not like they didn’t know they were shutting down presto… They’ve had time to get this done.

Forget Trump, forget Brexit, Foxtel Play has the latest Scandal

Presto favourite makes the move to Foxtel with seasons 1-5; plus, new episodes of season 6 to premiere on Foxtel on demand

Foxtel today turned up the political heat announcing that the incredibly popular politically charged drama, Scandal is available on demand via Foxtel and Foxtel Play. Originally airing on Presto, the Washington DC-based favourite has landed just as the sixth season has taken to the screen.

From today, Foxtel Play subscribers can instantly access the entire series including seasons 1-5 in full, along with this year’s already aired episodes from season 6. Foxtel will continue fast tracking every episode from season 6 of this gripping and award winning series to stream ad-free and on demand. Scandal is available to Foxtel Play subscribers on the Pop or Drama pack starting from only $15 per month.

Scandal stars Kerry Washington as Olivia Pope, a former media consultant to the President, who has dedicated her life to protecting and defending the public images of the nation’s elite by keeping their secrets under wraps. Pope leads a team who specialise in cleaning up the lives of other people, but who cannot seem to do the same for themselves.

Joining Pope in her political manoeuvres are associates Quinn (Katie Lowes), who has a complicated secret history, and former CIA hacker extraordinaire Huck (Guillermo Diaz). Scandal also features Elizabeth North (Australia’s Portia De Rossi) as the chairperson of the Republican National Committee, President Fitzgerald Grant (Tony Goldwyn) and First Lady Melody “Mellie” Grant (Bellamy Young).

Deanne Weir, Foxtel’s Managing Director - Content Aggregation and Wholesale, said, “With all of the ups-and-downs of today’s political climate, it’s great to be able to unwind with a bit of edge of your seat drama we can enjoy, stress-free. Scandal was one of the most watched TV series that streamed on Presto and it has been a breakout hit for fans everywhere. We’re thrilled to bring the entire series to Foxtel subscribers with each new episode premiering, on Foxtel on demand, in-line with the US broadcast.”

For fans hungry for even more political drama or comedy, Foxtel is also streaming seasons 1-5 of the Emmy Award-winning comedy, VEEP, starring the hilarious Julia Louis-Dreyfus; the six part Foxtel mini-series, Secret City, which follows a deep conspiracy underlying Canberra politics; The Good Wife (seasons 1-7), a high-impact drama filled with political corruption. Scandal’s Kerry Washington also stars in Confirmation, in a dramatic portrayal of Anita Hill during Clarence Thomas’ US Supreme Court nomination hearings.

Foxtel Play customers can enjoy their programming via eligible Samsung, Sony and LG Smart TVs, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 & 4, selected Samsung Blu-Ray and home theatre systems, PC and Mac computers, and Telstra TV.

Foxtel and Foxtel Play subscribers can both enjoy the latest Scandal on demand. In addition, subscribers can watch the best in locally made and international drama along with award winning sport, lifestyle, news, comedy and movies - anytime, anywhere on selected smartphones and tablets, via Foxtel’s companion streaming app, Foxtel Go as part of their subscription at no extra cost.

Foxtel Play named Best Streaming Video On Demand Provider

Foxtel today announced that Foxtel Play has picked up the gong for Best Streaming Video on Demand Provider at the inaugural CommsDay Edison Awards.

The category was open to companies who provide streaming video services, both free and via subscription, and Foxtel Play’s win recognised it as the best in class among a host of industry peers.

Deanne Weir, Foxtel’s Managing Director - Content Aggregation and Wholesale, said, “We are delighted that Foxtel Play has been recognised as the Best Streaming Video on Demand Provider at the CommsDay Edison Awards. Foxtel Play has continued to gain incredible momentum with Australian subscribers, and last night’s win is testament to all of the effort the team has put behind this great service.

“We were thrilled to offer more flexible pricing for customers late last year and we have continued to innovate with the addition of Foxtel Play on Telstra TV along with the arrival of HD on that device as well as our ongoing effort to boost our fantastic on demand content line up for streaming customers. We look forward to sharing some exciting new developments for our streaming product in the coming months that will make the experience even better across platforms.

Foxtel Play’s win comes following the recent addition of a raft of new hits to the service including the politically charged drama Scandal; the Emmy Award winning anthology crime series American Crime; and the new HBO series, Big Little Lies, which has been the most popular HBO series launch in Foxtel’s history.

Foxtel Play is available starting from $10 per month for Lifestyle, Documentary or Kids. Other channel packs available include Drama and Pop packs as well as Sport and Movies tiers.

New Foxtel Play subscribers can sign up for a free two week trial* to explore all that it has to offer.

Foxtel Play customers can enjoy their programming via eligible Samsung, Sony and LG Smart TVs, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 & 4, selected Samsung Blu-Ray and home theatre systems, PC and Mac computers and Telstra TV.

Foxtel Play customers also have access to live and on demand content from the channels in their subscription on selected smart phones and tablets by downloading the Foxtel Go^ app at no extra cost.

So they won a horse race… Who else was in it though?

Well that was somewhat short-lived given they only just finished saying they were ditching presto in favour of the Foxtel Play branding.

It’s an opportunistic time for Foxtel of they wanted to get serious about streaming devices and the various operating systems that exist around the world to take the TiVo licence given that Hybrid (Seven) have opted to not continue to run TiVo in maintenance mode. Could be win/win for Foxtel if they did as they could market their own devices with TiVo’s interface, offer TiVo Mini for streaming puck, and TiVo standard hardware with FTA tuner along with the ability to still have Foxtel Now, Netflix, et al.

Foxtel removes 18 channels from Foxtel Play

Foxtel drops channels

I guess the real question is, how competitive is the new Foxtel Now going to be? I think they really screwed up the whole merge Presto into Foxtel Play thing. From what multiple outlets are reporting, Foxtel are moving to a more on demand platform akin to Presto than to linear channels like Foxtel. It’s interesting as Hulu are doing the opposite and moving towards linear channels where you can DVR your favourite shows.

If I have the Platinum Pack on Foxtel, do I get Foxtel Now for free?

Doesn’t work on Android O though. Plus concerning the lack of Android TV app despite their puck device supposedly running Android TV.
