AFL Footy Show

Newly crowned Footy Show host Craig Hutchison has been in heavy preseason training as he gets ready for the return of the Channel 9 juggernaut on March 9, reports News Corporation’s Fiona Byrne.

Hutchison was named the co-host of the equally loved and loathed show alongside Rebecca Maddern in December when Nine booted James Brayshaw after protracted, and ultimately unsatisfactory, contract talks.

Last week Hutchison joined new colleagues Maddern, Sam Newman, Billy Brownless, Shane Crawford and Dave Hughes for their team photo – based on hit drama Game of Thrones.

Whilst I understand Nine’s position in resting the show for 2 weeks, it really makes no sense to drop a sports themed option altogether for seven to snatch more of a market for The Front Bar. I would have rolled with the NRL Footy Show in place of the AFL one for two weeks. It’s not like they do too much of the footy talk anyway, and at least the fans of NRL in Victoria, SA and WA could have an opportunity to see the show at prime time. Maybe used it as a test bed to see what the ratings would be like in those states to see if there is a viability to running the alternative show on Gem or Go!
