Coalition faces massive voter backlash over NBN scrap plan

It is one thing to say that climate change is crap but quite another to threaten to scrap a popular $43 billion nation building project. That appears to be the corner that the leader of the opposition Tony Abbott has painted himself into with his announced intention for the National Broadband Network.

Mr Abbott has campaigned upon a platform of economic responsibility having built up a formidable armoury of bullets to fire against the Rudd/Gillard Government after a number of costly project fiascos. However, he appears to have badly misjudged the mood of the electorate on the issue of the NBN.

Ben Shipley, the managing director of Brisbane-based telco Comscentre, typifies the mood of the powerful and influential Australian telecoms industry when he describes the Abbott Coalition plan as being from the “dark ages”.

I doubt they will get the 'massive' voter backlash as predicted.

It comes down to affordability. So far in the last three years, I have had to borrow money to buy my plasma TV, I had to borrow money to buy computers for the kids for school, I had to borrow money to put insulation in the roof, then I had to borrow some more to remove it again. Then I borrowed some money to build a new kitchen on the side of the house (I know we already had one, but the new one is smaller and less usable, and doesn't come with any oven, or fridge, or anything useful.... and we can't all fit into the kitchen anyway), and then I borrowed more money to put solar panels on the roof of the house, and then borrowed even more money so I could get my old car taken away by a wrecker. And, you know, it costs a fortune to get hospital care, so I borrowed a fortune to ensure I have the ability to get my finger wrapped in a band-aid by a doctor (sill not a doctor of my choice... in fact maybe only a nurse)

I REALLY wanted to borrow more to get high speed internet connectivity connected to my home, but the bank manager said I actually couldn't afford it, and I should really start to cut back on borrowing money to do really silly things always.

And the moral of this story is..............

he already has one. The moral of the story is the TV he bought is a tax deduction as is the internet.

Its one of only a few projects that will actually pay itself off.

Sigh.....I COULD have had the Internet connection if I hadn't built the "too small" unneeded extra kitchen, and just kept the old serviceable insulation instead of putting in new insulation, and hadn't bought the plasma TV.

But wait!! The bank manager says I can have the internet connection, but I have to dock the kids pocket money to help pay for it. He calculates that the kids will be paying this cost back well into their retirement. Buy, what the hell.... I am fighting with my wife for control of the house, and the kids won't really understand about the long term costs.... so I reckon I'll get their vote in the household elections and rule the roost again. Good budgeting? Ha. That is for losers.

(BTW, if anyone missed the analogy..........)

I still think it would be easier if you got a better paying job.

But that kitchen means your house is worth more so when you sell it you'll get a nice tidy profit.
