Nine dumps Wimbledon
The Nine Network has axed its long-time coverage of the Tennis' holy grail, Wimbledon.
The network is believed to have saved $15m per year by not renegotiating for the rights. The decision sets the battleground for the looming AFL and NRL rights, of which Nine is expected to be a major player. Nine has indicated to the AFL its intention of bringing Monday Night AFL to screens across the country as a marquee weekly event if it wins the rights. |
Ch10's sports Channel "One" should have first dibs for AFL/NRL & Now Wimbledon.
..Imagine if Ch9 loses all three! It would serve them right for thier LACKLUSTER Broadcasting of Sports! |

Channel 09 is loosing the plot, the fact that the NRL CEO was on Channel 07 the other night on Johns show should be a massive red flag towards channel 09 about its future NRL broadcasting.
Hopefully ONE get the Tennis, they will do is massive justice unlike Nine who are hoping like hell that no other FTA bids for the rights and thus hand the right over to Crap Sports. As for the AFL, Nine have no chance, the AFL love the fact that they are on two FTA channels (more exposure to different sets of advertisers). Add to that that V8 Television are looking at switching away from Seven, who knows maybe ONE will end up with the tennis and V8 Supercars which further enhances Ten's position and removes them from the NRL which enhances Seven taking the NRL away from Nine and thus leaving Nine with golf & horse racing. |
