AFL TV Ratings

The AFL is on track for record attendances and memberships in 2010, but TV ratings have been poor this year.
AFL have said some slots are down but are generally pleased with TV ratings but quickly change the talk to the membership figures and crowd figures.
They have blamed it on a number of blow-outs..

Ten- Saturday night audiences drop from a Melbourne average of 374,000 last year to 283,000 this season..
Seven - Friday night football audiences are down 8.9%, from an average of 462,000 last year to 421,000 this season.
Foxtel- Saturday night coverage has seen its figures jump by as much as 20%.

Ha ha i am glad tv ratings for Friday night a falling I for one refuse to watch it 1 and a half hour delay in Adelaide 3 hour delay+ in Perth what a farce. And yet in Sydney sometimes they have a 3 hour delay in Sydney plus they get it live on the main event channel why can't Perth and Adelaide get it it it's a joke afl coverage in wa and sa we sometimes never get coverage of none crows/power games, and westcoast/freo games.

it is the fault of networks. They delay the start of games and then unnecessarily stretch out halftime. Lots of people don't watch because they do not intend to watch it until the end as it is to late.

When too much football is enough

IF TIMING really is everything, then a mid-season slide in ratings for the AFL’s marquee free-to-air Friday night and Saturday night matches will be of some concern for the league as it attempts to reach the magic number of $1billion when the TV rights negotiations recommence after the federal election.

On the surface, some of the recent ratings figures do not justify the AFL’s oft-stated belief it is entitled to an almost 33per cent increase on the current $760million rights deal with Seven, Ten and Foxtel. Not when its major rival, rugby league, is gaining similar aggregate figures in Sydney and Brisbane markets for a much smaller fee.
