A 49-year-old Cardiff woman and her husband are staking a claim to being the Hunter’s luckiest couple after winning their fourth major lottery prize - the first prize of $100,000 in $2 Jackpot Lottery draw 8310 this morning.
The winner spooked the NSW Lotteries official who called her with the good news by telling him: “I recognise your voice, I think you called me five years ago when I won the third prize of $5,000 in the same lottery. Would you believe we’ve won four times?
“My husband is also very lucky - 25 years ago he won the first prize in the old $1 lottery, which was $24,000. About five years after that we also won the first prize in the $2 Jackpot Lottery when it was $60,000 – we used the money to buy our home,” she said.
Despite their golden run the couple could still use their latest lottery windfall.
“The money will certainly make life easier. We’re not exactly poverty stricken but we’re definitely not rich either. It all goes, believe you me. When you’re raising three children, you have continuous outgoings of money,” she said.
The winner could not explain her good fortune, other than to say that she was a regular lottery ticket buyer.
“We tend to have a ticket in every draw. After winning four times there’s certainly something lucky about us. Maybe someone on the lottery draw likes us, or takes pity on us, more likely,” she joked.
“The money is nice but we’ve been lucky in lots of ways. We’ve got a good family and we’re coming up to 25 years of marriage – life’s pretty good. I can’t wait to tell my husband that we’ve won the lottery again, he’ll be over the moon.”
The winning ticket, numbered 36256, was purchased at the Cardiff Newsagency, 32A Kelton Street, Cardiff.
The Jackpot in the $2 Jackpot lottery draw this morning was not won and now stands at $1.025 million for draw 8311.
