Wild IT
Yesterday between 3:00pm and 4:00pm Brisbane time, site was basically unusable, switched to Koala Telecom and it was fine again.
Found out later it appeared that Optus had an outage to Overseas sites.

I understand Telstra (Reach) has been effected by the cable outage in Asia.
I'm churning my Koala ADSL Account to an Internode SOHO 8mb ADSL next week, really looking forward to that.

I have already passed my problems on to Mark by email but for general info here are the problems I have accessing the Knowfirst site.
I am with Bigpond and on dial-up:
It is not a speed problem but yesterday I could get to www.knowfirst.info site but could not then get any links to work. Today all is working fine. This happens fairly regularly, some days I get on OK, other days I get redirected to a site which tells me the bill hasn't been paid or something. For a while the only way I could get to Knowfirst was via knowfirst.org On Knowfirst.org none of the links will work. Then suddenly about Monday 8th this address www.knowfirst.info started working again. I would guess that this week I got to the fully operational knowfirst site about 4 time out of 6 tries!
At this stage my ability to get on to the full working Knowfirst site is hit and miss.
But today all is working perfectly!

Well what do you know, even http://knowfirst.org/index.php is working today. This is the first time! Seems like things are getting better??
I can follow links and everything!

I also emailed Mark, but I've had problems for the last 2 weeks(seems to be a lot better today though). I'm on 512 AAPT ADSL.

I keep getting this :-
<br /><strong>Warning</strong>: exec_cron(/home/knowfirs/public_html/forums/./includes/cron/dll_stats.php) [<a href='function.exec-cron'>function.exec-cron</a>]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in <strong>/includes/functions_cron.php</strong> on line <strong>276</strong><br /><br /><strong>Warning</strong>: exec_cron() [<a href='function.include'>function.include</a>]: Failed opening '/home/knowfirs/public_html/forums/./includes/cron/dll_stats.php' for inclusion (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in <strong>/includes/functions_cron.php</strong> on line <strong>276</strong><br />
Been happening for a few weeks (only on knowfirst), a refresh makes it go away.

What have you been doing to get that, ie clicking on a link etc.
What browser are you using when you get it?

Firefox.
I ALWAYS go to new posts, followed by a story link.
It randomly happens in either case. It even happened after pressing submit on the previous post.
Its only happening at knowfirst though.
A refresh seems to fix an occurence, but does not necessarily prevent another one on a following click.
None of which is fatal, just a pain in the rectum !

same here mate.
Just strange.
Bigpond here and always slow. Just click fav link and wait login wait neww/todays post wait etc sometimes up to 1 min or more happens all the time since cable breakage. I notice when I go to Whirlpool while wwaiting (yes can be that long at times) its real fast like the good ole knowfirst days.

Edit: This post took 11 secs sometimes its over 1 min.
My results are the same as ZOS. And I'm with Bigpond ADSL. Always slow since the upgrade. This afternoon/evening a little faster. Did start to be quicker earlier in the week, but then reverted again. At first I thought it might have been associated with the "backhoe" fade in Asia.....
Will PM "tracert" results to Mark and David.
Edit: This post took 7 seconds indicating it is significantly quicker than yesterday.

First time in ages (like Nov 2006) with iPrimus 512/128. Very. Very slow. I sent a trace to Mark.
I'd like to report that Knowfirst has been absolutely cooking in the last 2-3 days. It seems to be back to it's old time best. Well done guys. It makes life so much better not to have to wait.

look, seriously, we'd like to take the credit, but it was out of our hands. The cable in Asia really hurt us. Now it is almost back to its repaired state, and everything is slowly returning to normal.
And the new rules coming out on Thursday will help make this place even better.
