PRIME Minister John Howard has topped the opinion polls ... as the most embarrassing Australian.
After 10 years as PM, Mr Howard could be forgiven for thinking he was popular with the public.
Not so, according to the Bloke Awards released by Australian men's magazine FHM.
The awards are decided by the votes of more than 10,000 readers in the magazine's on-line poll about the real issues that concern young men.
Topics range from "best boobs'' (real and fake) to "best inappropriate place for shagging''.
Mr Howard picked up the Most Embarrassing Australian gong with 33 per cent of the vote but had to deal with something he hasn't faced in a decade - tough opposition.
Retired swimmer and devoted metrosexual Ian Thorpe (32.5 per cent) threatened to produce yet another strong finish but was eventually pipped at the line by Mr Howard.
Tosser of the Year was awarded to controversial Australian Idol co-host Kyle Sandilands (29 per cent), holding out "any male Big Brother housemate'' (28 per cent).
Proving FHM readers are hard markers indeed, convicted drug smuggler Schapelle Corby (45 per cent) comfortably took out Biggest Sook ahead of Kevin Federline (32 per cent).
"Best punch'' went to rugby league forward Willie Mason for his hit on Stuart Fielden, which left the British prop so concussed he forgot his mother was dead and had to be reminded by teammates in the dressing sheds after the game.
English funny man Sacha Baron Cohen was a big winner, taking out Best Comedian and best movie (Borat).
And Australian productions effortlessly cleaned up in the worst TV show stakes, accounting for all five nominated programs, with Network Ten's intentional comedy The Wedge taking top spot.
